At Burton upon Stather Primary, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
Aims, outcomes and objectives
Our main aims at Burton upon Stather Primary School are to:
To ensure all pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. To increase the number of pupils engaged in regular physical activity and healthy lifestyles; raise the profile of PE and sport across the school, as a tool for whole school improvement; continue to increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport to ensure challenge and achievement for all pupils and increase the range of sports and activities offered to all pupils; increase participation in competitive sport.

Ensuring all children will progress their skills and confidence; improving children’s holistic wellbeing; all pupils will participate in a type of competition, raising pupil’s confidence; developing children’s social and leadership skills; increasing participation in those that are seen as physically inactive, raising the engagement and enjoyment of physical activity; increasing self-discipline, self-determination and self-confidence; raising pupils’ understanding of healthy lifestyles; promoting healthy lifestyles and develop independent ability to be healthy and active; developing children’s ability to live healthy lifestyles and make active and healthy choices.
