Class Photos

Year 1 journeyed into the past this week to hear about the story of The Plague in 1665 and how we learnt all about the Great Fire of London from Samuel Pepys in 1666. The children even managed to unearth his 'diary' along with some cheese and 'wine'! After we had the story brought to life with props, we made our own wooden homes and made our own paintbrushes using nature. Using the paintbrushes, the children made their own blazing fires. During the afternoon, the children journeyed back to Pudding Lane to discuss how the fire started. The children enjoyed making their own bread sticks and added delicious toppings. We even got photo evidence of the children washing up!

For our last 'Enchanted Woodland' themed Forest School, Year 1 went on a hunt to see how many different mini beasts they could find in our 'Enchanted Woodland'. It was surprising how many different variations of mini beasts we had! After, we used the trees as easels to make our own nature portraits by foraging for different materials to make them. We then headed to the garden just before lunch to make sure the weeds were removed so our plants had enough space to grow. I am so proud of how well the children have been looking after them. Soon, we will have plenty of vegetables to harvest. After lunch, we began to do a bit more gardening before creating our own fairy gardens. The children were very particular about how they wanted them to look and paid great attention to detail. Children worked hard as a team to collect materials, communicate and think about the design. Well done Year 1! We can't wait to see what our next Forest School will have in store...

Forest School- 12th May

Apologies for the lack of photos, the class iPad lost power so I was unable to take any :(

Year 1 did have lots of fun this week! Despite us only having the afternoon, we kept very busy! The children started with some den building whilst small groups of children were taken to practise fire lighting and make seed bombs. Once the fire was lit, the children enjoyed toasting marshmallows and making smores. Yum!

Year 1 were amazing in Forest School this week (28/5). They began by harvesting our rhubarb and following a recipe to make rhubarb muffins. Despite the adults feeling unoptimistic about the batter, they turned out to be delicious! I was very proud of all the children trying them even if they didn't quite like it.

During the afternoon, the children prepared all the vegetable beds ready for new seeds to be planted. We managed to plant onions, radishes, lettuce and suede.

*As I write this, the plants are already growing! Year 1 have been keen to help me water the plants each day. Well done Year 1!
